Designer: Kym Ellery
Show: Hawaiian Airlines presents Runway to Runway Fashion Show
Growing up in Australia with an artist mother, Kym Ellery was exposed to textile art, print-making and ceramics. She knew she wanted to be a designer, making dresses for herself and, later, her friends. She studied fashion design in Perth and later attended fashion school Central St. Martins in London. She has a keen eye for avant-garde style and previously worked on the creative team at Russh—a magazine that became a cutting-edge fashion publication in Australia. That experience led to her own clothing brand,
ELLERY, which soon drew media attention.
She designs clothing she and the women in her life would want to wear, and strives to appeal to a wide-ranging age group. She creates retro-modern silhouettes with architectural tailoring, including flared sleeves which have become her signature. Her looks feel classic and luxurious, while still maintaining an easy coolness. Her color palette leans monochromatic—blacks, whites, neutrals—with pops of color and shimmer here and there.
ELLERY has gained a following from celebrities including Solange Knowles, Cate Blanchett and Elle Fanning. She has also headlined at Australian Fashion Week and debuted in Paris.
